Important questions
-
What does sustainable mean for the town of Agbokpa?
-
We are building a program that should be catered specifically to the people we are working with. For instance, while a basic sewage system with a number of toilets may be feasible for a town on the outskirts of a large city, Agbokpa is not near any infrastructure that could be used in a waste transportation based method. Similarly, a much more basic compost-based pit latrine system would only be useful for the town if the members are willing to actively empty the pit systems and compost the waste.
-
-
What will be done with the urine waste?
-
The urine waste cannot be composted and it is the part of the excrement that usually is the most odorous. We must work with the community to find the best disposal method for them.
-
-
Is the community willing to participate fully?
-
Our development model is based on motivating the community to take pride in their own development. However, this requires some level of community buy in for the project. Are they willing?or is there a way for us to frame the project that gets them the most excited?
